Birthday Picture Overload

You've been warned!

I have problem, as far as problems go it's a pretty great one to have. We have a family friend who my kids all love who is a FANTASTIC photographer. Why is that a problem you might ask? Only because I have a very hard time picking my favorites!

These were supposed to be our annual "birthday" pictures, I've started doing 1 photo shoot in the middle of everyone's birthdays - so for the little girls it's a little after their actual birthdays and for the big kids it's just before their special day. Good enough for me! Here a a few of my favorites - these are just a few of the great photos she took that day.

Nate will be 12 in less than a month!

In his preferred element
Doing what he does best - being the best big brother EVER!

This one just melts my heart!
Abbie will be 10 - in just a couple of weeks

Kassie turned 5 this summer

Last but not least Maddie is 3

Group shots

Silly faces

Nate being....well....Nate

My sweet sweet girls
See?! What did I say - too many good ones to choose from. Great pictures of my favorite people, thanks to an amazing friend, and that doesn't even count the much needed mommy conversation time after pictures were done. I am truly blessed by some amazing people in my life, and I am grateful beyond words!

Nate - Future Programmer?

So the other day a friend "shared" on facebook a link for
21 Jokes Only Nerds Will Understand (Click here if you want to see them all)

I clicked over, 'cause I'm curious & wanted to see how many I would get. I saw this one & just about fell off my chair laughing. I laughed longer and harder than I had for some time.

So here's why it was so funny.

A couple of weeks ago we (the kids and I) were running Abbie to Baton class and Nate was hungry. We went across the street to the bagel shop & I gave him money & sent him in to get a half dozen sesame seed bagels (his favorite). He came back out very sad, they were out of sesame seed bagels I mentally went through their bagels and sent him back in. My suggestion: "Why don't you go back in and get a pizza bagel, you like pizza. You can try something new and then maybe next time you'll have another kind that you like." He asked me if he should get a dozen to which  I replied "No, just get one to try and if you like it you can get more later". He came out with a half dozen pizza bagels and a free sample he talked them into giving him.

Somehow he got the worker to give him a sample to try, decided he liked it, and (I guess) it was "later" enough & I had orignially sent him in for a half dozen bagels so surely I still needed a half dozen. So he bought a half dozen pizza bagels. Perfect Nate logic.

I don't think I'll ever need a half dozen pizza bagels, but I did get a reminder that day of just how literal he can be. Hey programmers make good money - right?!

Not at all related to this post but today I am grateful for a creative husband who "redneck engineered"  the kids pool so they could cool off in this heat & I didn't have to find the $$$ for new pool! They've been playing all day - it makes us all much happier. ("Redneck engineered" are Dan's words not mine - he's the least redneck person I know!)

Condo BOOKED!

I've had one of those "Are you kidding me?!" moments this week.

The back story - for the past couple of years when we have gone to visit Dan's parents we have rented a condo in Park City. It's cooler (temperature wise) and lots cheaper than hotels in the valley (more than half the price in difference).

So this year when our dates were set I contacted the people who have the condo we've rented from the last couple of years but it was already booked - big disappointment! I went to the website where I had found the first condo and started searching. That was over a month ago. I just wasn't having any luck. I've found places but people weren't responding, or they were booked, or they just wouldn't work for us. Not so lucky for us, there is some big baseball tournament the weekend after we are there and apparently people are going early to play or something but it's been very frustrating.

Sunday afternoon as we were talking about our options Dan mentions that maybe it's time we pray for help. The cynic (in my head) says I'm pretty sure Heavenly Father doesn't care where we stay and that we shouldn't bother him for this & that this is one of those "take care of it yourself" kind of things - for the record I never voiced any of this out loud. Anyway, during family prayers that night Dan mentions in his prayer what is going on and asks for help. We put the kids to bed and I don't want to sit in front of the computer so I pull out my smartphone and start looking on VRBO AGAIN for a condo - find 4 in our budget range that will fit out family, 3 wouldn't be our first choice but I'm starting to get desperate we are scheduled to leave soon! So I send off inquires to all of them, thinking that with our track record this year I'll be lucky to hear back from just one of them. I was getting super frustrated and starting to cross into the "just forget it let's stay home" relm, but NO Monday morning there were 3 replies in my in-box. I couldn't believe we might actually have a choice to make. As I looked more at them to see which one would work best I get an email from the 4th place. It was PERFECT! Too good to be true kind of perfect. I went and looked again at the website and the offer they sent us, the price had changed  and there were extra fees in the offer that weren't on the website (that would have turned me away) and put it out of our price range - yep too good to be true. I emailed the people and said thanks for reply, but with the extra fees it's out of our budget range, etc. but their place looked great. I went back to the other 3 trying to decide which one would work for us, but with the "one that got away" feeling. Long story short, the owner of the it's too good to be true condo - emailed me and we worked out a deal & it's ours for vacation!!!!!

It's more than we need for sleeping spaces, but it's got plenty of kitchen/table space so Dan's family can join us while we are there for meals and to play/spend time together. None of the other condos even came close to meeting out needs in this area and it was starting to stress me out, but this will make things so much easier. I think we'll have a great time! So the moral of this story - there's no problem to small that we can't take it too our Heavenly Father for guidance & direction. We have to do our part & we certainly had done our share of searching and trying to take care of it on our own, but it just wasn't working we needed extra help & thank goodness Dan was willing to ask.

Seriously - check this place out! (Hover on the sentence below - it's actually a link, time to figure out why my links don't look like links.....another thing to add to my to do list)
Our perfect vacation condo!

Super cool note: As I was talking to the owner in working out our deal she told me that although they've had the property for several years they've saved it's use for family & close friends and this was the first time they were going to rent it out & that they had just listed it on the VRBO site the day I had found it & emailed in requesting a quote. There are a lot of things that I could say, but in the end it all boils down to prayers were heard and answered in a way better than we could have ever expected, and I wasn't even going to ask. Consider myself reminded. With Him ALL things are possible. All things, no exceptions.

Dance Recital

Warning for my friends who read this blog - this is mostly so my kiddos' grandparents can "see" Kassie & Abbie's dance recital. Feel free to watch, but I won't hold it against you if you don't.

All dolled up & ready to go.

Abbie received her trophy for 3 years of dance - she was SOOOOO excited!

For all but 1 of the videos Nate was my awesome videographer. For Abbie's tap routine he had camera issues and it didn't record so you get the back up copy from my cell phone. It starts out pretty bad but does get better - although not ever as good as the camera Nate had. Anyway now for the show:

 Abbie's Ballet Routine

Kassie's Ballet Routine

Abbie's Tap Routine

Abbie's Parade Baton Routine

Kassie's Tap Routine followed by Abbie's Baton Routine (nice that they were back to back)

Abbie's Jazz Routine (her favorite of the night)

I would love to share their actual dance photos (professionally done) but I don't have the copyright to them so this will have to do. (Grandma's and other close family we do have printed pictures for you if you want them!)
I love being in the audience and watching my kids (for this time the big girls) do something they love & have so much fun through it all. Not a bit of stage fright and LOTS of smiles. It was a great night!

Summer Time Here We Come!

Today was Nate & Abbie's last day of school for this year. Yipee Yahoo!

I really love having my kids home for summer, sure there will be days that they drive me loopy loo but I really like them as people and they (for the most part) get a long, so I'm ready for some summer fun and less alarm clock.

For a bit of nostalgia - their first official day of school this year (3rd grade for Abbie & 5th for Nate)
Now for today - their last day - the are growing/changing/maturing before my eyes! (Abbie, you silly girl stand up straight you're almost as tall as Nate!)
Our annual summer trip to see the grandparents will be here before we know it. It's a lot of work, laundry, stress, packing, driving & driving - did I mention driving?!....not much of a vacation at all really (well not for me anyway) but my kids loving seeing their grandparents! I grew up with both sets of my grandparents in the same town, what a tremendous blessing I now know that was. Having no real family support where we live has had it's ups and downs, especially on those days you could really use backup. That said we've got some truly amazing friends who are just like family to us, but that's a post for another day. It's really important for my kids to have time with their grandparents - to make memories and bond with them, so load 'em up we'll be on our way before you know it & before I'm ready I'm sure. (The following pictures & video are from last summer's trip.)
The countdown is on! Last year's battle wounds have healed, time to make more memories!
Summer is here - bring on the family fun!

Jump Jump Jump for JOY!
Summer time flip out - 2012 (you can't really tell - but it's a video link. Click to watch)

I am so very very grateful that we have the opportunities to have fun as a family.
Nothing means more to me than Dan and the kids. Nothing.

I never thought I'd

Enjoy anything put out by Glenn Beck (frankly I don't listen to him, he's just to caustic IMO) so I don't know how much I'd agree or not with anything he says. That said....

This morning a facebook friend commented on a video - it caught my eye in the corner of my screen, who knows why, and even more strange curiosity got the better of me and I clicked and spent 10 minutes watching & weeping. I really need to write a blog post (soon I hope) about our experience with Dan having 1 paralyzed vocal cord just what an impact that had on our lives, but until then... watch this:

It was a much needed reminder to me today (and probably more days than not) that I need to choose my words carefully. Make sure they are the kind of words I really want put out there. This is not something easy for me - it's easy for me to react, often with more passion than I'd like (yes, my version of a positive spin on having a short fuse more often than I'd like to admit to).

So I'm taking this reminder to heart today, and hopefully tomorrow and countless days after to make the things I say worth hearing and to make them words of love, forgiveness, understanding.

I am grateful for second chances (and third and fourth and fifth and...) to start anew to be a better me. The me I really want to be.

Preschool Picture (OVERLOAD)

So yesterday was Kassie's last day of preschool & they had their graduation last night. We LOVE LOVE LOVE this preschool & my only regret is that we didn't find it sooner for Nate & Abbie.

Anyway - when Kassie started preschool we took her picture with the sign the first day & then she (on random days) wanted her picture at the sign so we have quite the collection.

Our standard - first day of school in front of the tree picture
First day of preschool at the sign, not real sure about this (the picture not school, she has always loved school).
 Couple of random days
Yellow Day
School spirit day - not sure what she's doing, but I don't think (really hope) that she's not picking her nose - UGH, pretty sure her finger is in her mouth though.
Halloween
Christmas Program
There really are lots more - then she became a Pre-K Kid
Sometimes Maddie just had to be part of the action

Halloween
Feast Day
Christmas Program
Random "take a picture mom" days

Last day of preschool

Ready for graduation!
And now she's a graduate!
My photographer (Nate) got some great pictures - best of the night!

With Teacher Marilisa
With Miss Monica
With Miss Kelly
Ready for a flashback?!
Here is Abbie at her graduation from the same preschool. Wow how time flies & how much she's changed/grown up! Not to mention how much better my camera is! My camera phone is better now then my good camera was then, as evidenced by the following pictures (you've been warned).

With Teacher Marilisa
 And with Miss Monica

I am grateful to be able to send my kiddos to such a great preschool! It truly is a blessing in my life & in the life of my children. I number the staff there among our friends. Maddie is registered for next year & we can't wait, she's already asking when it get's to be her school!
