Flashback - July 2010

My memory is a bit foggy this time around - I'm mostly relying on pictures & videos to remind me of what we did - thank goodness we're pretty good at taking our camera/cellphones with us just about everywhere we go.

July was filled for the most part with summer school and cub scout day camp, with some backyard swimming thrown in for good measure - it was summer vacation after all!

Summer school - was fun & both "big kids" had a good time - great teachers & all that. Summer school was only half a day long (9am - noon) so that left plenty of time for backyard playing & since I was still on maternity leave for most of the summer it left time for me to be with the kids more than usual.

Last summer was Nate's first experience with "Cut Scout Day Camp". Where my sister lives it is literally 1 day - it is 4 days here, 8am to 4pm (or something close to that). Nate had a BLAST - which was only appropriate since the theme was a space camp type theme. On Friday (the last day) they had a family picnic with each group doing a skit & showcasing their group's cheer. In case you didn't pick that up Nate was part of the Zodiacs.

Nate, waiting for his grand alien entrance.

We also took a field trip to the Naval Undersea Museum with some friends to pass off one of the requirements Nate had hanging out there to get his Wolf Badge. We had a great time playing & dressing up - there was lots to see & do!

Thanks for the boost Brother Goerke!

In terms of backyard fun - we had lots. We even had friends (sorry practically no pictures of this - we must have been having too much fun) over to join in on the fun & sun. Nate had his first sleep over with his good buddy Caleb, which much to my relief was a great success! Kassie was extremely slow in warming up to the idea of swimming in the pool - we even pulled out the little wading pool but she wanted nothing to do with it, it quickly became my mission to get her to want to play in the pool with the big kids - more on that later.

We finished off the month with Silverdale's Whaling Days - the firework show is a family favorite for us!

Yes, I know I skipped Kassie's birthday. I'm saving that for it's own post.

I am grateful that even though my big kids were sad that we didn't get to go on a real summer vacation (read as "get to go see grandma"), that they were good sports and helped us have a great summer here at home.
